Tech Tips - Noah Martin, Manager Technical Service
Noah Knows his stuff!
With Christmas right around the corner (Yikes!) I wanted to remind everyone that when it comes to sealing envelopes it is best to have mitered envelopes with a triangular flap. The least desirable envelope for sealing is the square flap often found on holiday greeting cards. With the exception of our fastest machines, most of them rely on a brush to apply the moisture to the envelope flap. The triangular shape does not meet just one part of the brush, but travels up and down as the envelope travels through, providing the brush ample time to refresh the water used by the envelope. The square shape consistently meets the brush at one spot, thus the brush has no chance to re charge, providing for an inconsistent seal. A Square Flap is also very likely to jam in the sealer.
So if you are the one supplying the cards for the company, do the Mailcenter a favor, be sure to check out the envelope flaps before you buy, otherwise pick up some sponges while you’re at it!
