USPS Rate Change(s) – Commercial Discounts
Rate Change Protection Plans
The “Competitive Products” prices went up in January of 2009 at the same time as Federal Express and UPS. “Competitive Products include Parcels, Express Mail and Priority Mail. (Flats going at First-Class weighing over 13 ounces becomes Priority Mail and were affected by the January rate change.) New “Commercial” discounts were also launched for digital meter users when combined with Delivery Confirmation. Delivery Confirmation is also free when done electronically for Priority Mail and only $.19 for Parcels/NFM. This alone is a good reason to schedule a process review with your SD Postal account representative.
The price changes for “Market Dominant” products such as First-Class and Standard Mail will take place on May 11, 2009. For our customers that have rate protection, the value of this service doubled with this announcement.
What is Rate Change Protection?
For the uninitiated, rate change protection is advanced payment for new rates for your postal equipment at a significantly reduced cost. Hasler and Neopost generally now include rate protection with their meters, so when you lease a new machine, the rate change protection can be included in your monthly meter rental.
The Benefits of Rate Protection are:
If you have a postage machine that is three to five years old or more, you should contact your San Diego Postal & Shipping Equipment Account Representative or email sales@sdpostal.com for an evaluation of your current needs. It could be that you have outgrown your present postage equipment, or just need to replace the equipment that you have. There are a good deal of new features on our third generation of digital equipment that make your mail processing easier and more efficient and most importantly they help to save money on postage.
