May 11 Rate Change is Right Around the Corner

New opportunities to spend and new opportunities to save

On Feb. 10, the Governors of the Postal Service announced new prices and product features for mailing services effective Monday, May 11, 2009. This includes the full service Intelligent Mail services option for First-Class Mail, Periodicals, and Standard Mail letters and flats, and Bound Printed Matter flats, effective Nov. 29, 2009

New mailing standards to support the price changes are also being implemented.

According to Mail Pro Magazine:

“The new prices include a 2-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail stamp to 44 cents. The average increase by class of mail is at or below the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. Prices for mailing services will continue to be adjusted annually each May. For First-Class Mail, there will be no changes to the current prices for additional ounces.”

Other mailing standard and pricing issues are discussed in more detail this newsletter. Among them are new addressing standards for flat mail; and a new discount rate structure called  “Commercial” for Priority and Express Mail users .
