San Diego Postal Newsletter December 2007 Vol. 1 Issue 5

What Does the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) mean to me?

As with most far reaching changes the answer depends on how you utilize the services of the USPS and what type of mail, parcel and special service you use.

In a general sense we believe that the changes will bring more competition to the market place, which is a good thing. The post office will be capable of more aggressive promotions, will be able to respond more quickly to the actions of the other large shippers and will be forced to become even more efficient.

Small parcel shippers may find that they have a viable third alternative for shipping domestic and international goods.

Mailers using overnight services may find reduced Express and Priority mail rates that are competitive with other large shippers.

Some postage meter customers will be challenged to keep up to date with current rates. Fortunately with Hasler products there are several ways to make the process virtually automatic, so that the last minute panic often associated with rate changes can be a thing of the past.

Rate Change Options

Rate Insurance - For a small monthly amount (as low as $8.00 per month for the smallest machines) mailers automatically will be sent a “Smart” card directly from Hasler to update their equipment. No order placement or additional expense required.

Total Protection – For a small monthly amount that varies depending on the size or your postage meter, Hasler will provide an automatic download to your mail machine, it doesn’t get any more convenient than that! Again, no order placement or additional expense required.

Order at the time of the Change – This is the current method and may or may not be the best option for you, depending upon your mail volume. There are two options associated with this method, self update, in which the update card or chip is sent to the end user, or installed, in which our technician arrives at your location to install the chip and make certain that it is functioning properly.
